A matter can be deleted only when the matter is Closed. In order to close a matter, there are two scenarios 


Scenario 1: Matter without any active associations


To close and delete a matter that has no active associations, please follow the below steps.


Step 1: Log in to the Exterro application.

Step 2: Click on Manage matter from the homepage.

Step 3: Select the matter that you would like to delete.

Step 4: Click on the drop-down icon next to the Action button and click on Close matter as shown below.



Step 5: In the close matter pop-up, click on OK as shown below.



Step 6: Once the matter’s status is changed to Closed, click on the dropdown next to the Actions menu and click on Delete matter as shown below.



Step 7: In the delete matter pop-up, schedule the date for matter deletion in the Schedule deletion date field and click OK as shown below.



Once the scheduled deletion date is updated, the matter will be deleted on the mentioned date. Once the matter is deleted, all the records associated with the matter in the Exterro fusion platform would be permanently deleted and cannot be retrieved.


Scenario 2: Matter with active associations


If the matter has active associations like Legal Holds, Projects, or Interviews, we need to make sure that those associations are in the below statuses to proceed with matter deletion.


  1. Legal Hold  -  Released

  2. Project        -  Completed

  3. Interviews   -  Completed 


Once you release the legal hold and complete the interview and project, you can go ahead and close and delete the matter with the below steps.


Step 1: Log in to the Exterro application.

Step 2: Click on Manage matter from the homepage.

Step 3: Select the matter that you would like to delete.

Step 4: Click on the drop-down icon next to the Action button and click on Close matter as shown below.



Step 5: In the close matter pop up, click on OK as shown below.



Step 6: Once the matter’s status is changed to Closed, click on dropdown next to Actions menu and click on Delete matter as shown below.



Step 7: In the delete matter pop-up, schedule the date for matter deletion in the Schedule deletion date field and click OK as shown below.



Once the above steps are followed, a matter that has associations can be deleted.
