Problem

When browsing to Summation/eDiscovery you get the error "Server error in '/ADG.Map.Web' application" followed by the below "Runtime Error":

"Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine."

Sample screenshot:

This does not represent the actual error encountered by the application, but is indicating that Summation/eDiscovery is set to not show the actual error when accessed from a remote machine.

Resolution

In many instances, running the recycle services script can resolve this issue. This issue can stem from a service stopping unexpectedly, services starting up out of order, or not at all, after a reboot, or an issue in IIS that needs to be reset. If the Recycle Services script does not resolve the issue then:

  1. Remote into the machine where "AccessData MAP" is installed
  2. Open Internet Explorer
  3. Navigate to "https://localhost/ADG.Map.Web"

This should allow you to see the actual error that the application is experiencing, allowing you to better troubleshoot the issue.

Cause

Summation/eDiscovery is set to not show the actual error when accessed from a remote machine. You can access it from the MAP machine itself, though, to see the full error the application is experiencing.
