How do I configure eDiscovery to collect from OneDrive as individual personal SharePoint sites?
Prerequisites
- eDiscovery 6.1 or newer
- Internet access from the Collections Work Manager machine
Answer
Create a Personal SharePoint Service Account
- Sign in to the O365 Admin console at https://admin.microsoft.com as an administrator
- Under User Management click "Add user"
- Specify a name and credentials for the new user.
- Expand Roles and select "User"
- Click "Add" to create the new user
Grant Permissions Using the Classic SharePoint Admin Center
- Login to your SharePoint Admin page (https://-admin.sharepoint.com) as an Administrator
- In the menu on the left, click "Classic SharePoint admin center"
- On the left click "user profiles"
- Under "People", click "Manage User Profiles"
- Do the following for every user whose data you wish to be able to collect:
- Search for the desired user in the "Find profiles" dialog
- Click the user's Account name and click "Manage site collection owners"
- Add your newly created service account user and click "OK"
Add a Personal SharePoint Connector in eDiscovery
- Login to eDiscovery as an Administrator
- Click "Data Sources" at the top
- Click the SharePoint tab
- Click the plus sign
to create a new connector
- Specify the Web Application URL and the Username and Password of the previously created service account user, then click "OK"
Note: The Web Application URL should be a personal site in the form https://domain-my.sharepoint.com/personal/username_domain_com/
Perform Collections
- In the Jobs tab, click on the
to create a new collection
- In the pull down box, select Collection
- Select SharePoint in the selection box below
- In the SharePoint tab, select the Personal SharePoint/OneDrive site that you need to collect from
- Complete the collection as you would any other collection
Notes
- The Modern SharePoint and OneDrive Admin Centers do not appear to have a way to grant Site Collection Administrator permissions to Personal SharePoint/OneDive sites.
- A new connector will need to be created in eDiscovery for each user's personal SharePoint (OneDrive) site.
