Question

When I try to add evidence, I get the error message "Unable to find processing manager."

Answer

  • Open up Add/Remove programs and make sure that the Evidence Processing Engine for your version of the product is installed. You can see what that should be using this article: FTK and Processing Engine version numbers

  • If this is a new single-box install, open up services.msc and make sure that there is no "Distributed processing engine" service showing. If it is, then the processing engine was accidentally installed as distributed. Uninstall the evidence processing engine and install it again, being sure not to check the "install as distributed box" during the install.

  • Make sure that the PM folder ‪(Default location: C:\ProgramData\Exterro\State), or the drive it's located on, has permissions to the local system, logged in user, and/or service account.

Overview

There are several possible reasons the Processing Manager might not be accessible.
